The Little Guide to... preventing fraud and cyber crime

A little book explaining some of the most common frauds and scams and gives advice on how to avoid falling victim to them

Personal fraud and how to prevent it

Fraud is when a person lies to you, or ‘scams’ you, to gain an advantage, such as taking your money or learning private information about you.

‘Vishing’ Phone Scam

The scam, known as 'vishing', involves a fraudster making a phone call posing as a bank representative and persuading victims to reveal financial information or use their card readers to authorise payments online.

‘Spoofing’ Bank Text Scam

'Spoofing' is when scammers change their number to show a legitimate company’s number rather than their personal number.
