COURT SENTENCING

Man sentenced by Royal Court for drugs offences

This afternoon (Thursday 12 September 2024), Mohammed Babrul Hussain, aged 32 years, from Birmingham, was sentenced by the Royal Court to seven years and six months in custody for drug offences.

This follows him pleading guilty earlier this year to offences linked to the importation of Class A (MDMA) and Class B (Cannabis) controlled drugs into Jersey using the postal system.

Mohammed Hussain was also charged with possessing £19,164.65 of criminal property which were proceeds linked to the drug supply on Island.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Christina Maclennan said: "This conviction forms part of a wider investigation linked to the illegal network of controlled drugs into Jersey, an investigation for which some Defendants are still to appear before the court. That said, this sentence should serve as a deterrent to those who are involved in the importation and supply of controlled drugs in Jersey.

“The States of Jersey Police, along with partners across Government, including Jersey Customs and Immigration, are committed to disrupting such networks, as well as supporting those vulnerable to the harms caused as a result."
