Arrest made in connection with Operation Nectar investigation

A man has been charged in connection with the States of Jersey Police investigation into the collision at sea between the Commodore Goodwill ferry and the L'Ecume II fishing vessel on December 8, 2022.

The man was arrested in the UK in an operation which was carried by SoJP officers supported by UK forces and conducted in liaison with the Law Officers Department.

The suspect has been brought to Jersey and will appear in court today (Wednesday 3 July 2024) charged with three counts of manslaughter relating to the deaths of the crew aboard the L'Ecume II - skipper Michael Michieli and crew members Jervis Baligat and Larry Simyunn.

Police said their thoughts remain with the families of the men who died.
