17-year-old sentenced for grave and criminal assault, involving a machete
Today (Wednesday 19 June 2024), Jersey’s Royal Court sentenced a 17-year-old female to a one-year custodial sentence for a grave and criminal assault, following an incident in November last year. She has also been sentenced to a three-year restraining order.
The defendant cannot be named for legal reasons.
The defendant visited her victim’s home in St Helier, late in the evening on 19 November 2023, armed with a machete.
She confronted the victim at his front door and a physical altercation took place. This resulted in the victim sustaining significant injuries to both his hands, leaving him with long-lasting scars and injuries.
Following arrest and interview, the defendant was charged to appear in Court and remanded at Greenfields Youth Centre.
On 18 April 2024, she entered a guilty plea to grave and criminal assault, admitting she had possession of the machete at the time of the incident, although she denied intending to use this to cause harm.
The defendant will serve her one-year custodial sentence at Greenfields Youth Centre.
