Ferry worker jailed for 20 months following fatal boat collision
On Friday 4 December, the Royal Court concluded proceedings following the collision between the Commodore Goodwill and L’Ecume II on 8 December 2022, which claimed the lives of skipper Michael Michieli and crew members Jervis Baligat and Larry Simyunn.
Lewis Peter Carr has been sentenced to 20 months after being found guilty under Article 37.4 of the Shipping (Jersey) Law 2002, relating to unsafe conduct at sea.
Senior Investigating Officer Andy Shearwood said:
“Our thoughts remain with the families of Michael Michieli, Jervis Baligat, and Larry Simyunn following today’s sentencing. This marks the conclusion of one of the most complex investigations we’ve undertaken. While nothing can undo the tragedy of 8 December 2022, we hope this outcome brings some measure of closure for their families and our community”
